Overview
During the first day (also known as the Primordial phase as well as the first part of the Ensuing phase) of Creation Week about 6,000 years ago, God began by creating the space-time continuum and forming the Earth (the first matter) out of water, as well as creating the very first light source (whatever this could've been), thus making it possible to measure days.
Genesis 1:1-4 states:
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was[a] on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.

Geology and biology
There are no known rocks from this time because it is not expected that any significant geological work would have been accomplished yet (seeing as the planet had just began as a liquid sphere of water). Neither would it be expected to find organic life on the planet, even though water would come to be a crucial ingredient.
Although it is possible that the core of the Earth could have began to form (and in the process perhaps beginning to form the underwater crust of the planet) to retain the Earth's spherical shape. However, this primordial Earth would have consisted of the very same water that exists today, the very same water that we drink and that makes life possible. The illustrations on the right depicts the imagined environments on Earth during this day. |
